Designed by Bob Gillespie

BSMV JPEG

Patent Acquired 1998, International Patent Pending

Presenting the best-ever buzzing enhancement device for clarity of sound and embouchure development. Designed by one of the most provocative trombonists of our time, Bob Gillespie, formerly of the Metropolitan Opera.

Made popular by brass players in Chicago, buzzing techniques and individual practice have led to the emergence of the greatest of all schools of brass playing.  The integration into brass playing of mouthpiece practice and other buzzing techniques is not new. They were previously employed in both Europe and Russia during the nineteenth century.

The B.S.M.V. is without a doubt a great contribution to brass playing. It will assist in the perfection of the art. It is the only buzz-enhancement device which enables the player to accurately co-ordinate the speed of the slide arm or fingers with that of the emission of air during the production of specified vibrating frequencies of the lips, at the aperture of the embouchure. This is essential in order to prevent “drawing blanks”- the loss of sound during the performance of a musical phrase- a musical “black out” (the term “drawing blanks” originated by Jay Friedman-Solo Trombone,-Chicago Symphony Orchestra).

For the serious student or professional player this technical defect must be avoided. B.S.M.V. practice, when done properly, can reduce problems in tone production and help to create a more centered, secure, and beautiful sound.

Our B.S.M.V. products are available for the trumpet, trombone and tuba. Please see our products page for more information.
